Schodack-William R. Smith, 87, passed away Friday March 25, 2016 at Barnwell Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Valatie.

Bill or Smitty as most knew him, was a lifetime member of the Schodack Landing Fire Company and a founding father. He was employed with the Brown Paper Company until his retirement as a supervisor in the Box department. Smitty loved the Yankees, playing poker, singing to anyone who would listen and was an avid fan of Frank Sinatra and John Denver.

He is survived by his children Sandra (Lee) Wetherby, Terry (Karen) Smith and Cheryl (Scott) Simpson; 4 grandchildren, Jeremee (Lauren) Wetherby, Justin (Katie) Wetherby, Schuyler and Gunnar Simpson; and 7 cherished great grandchildren, Jared, Gabriel, Rachel, Ada, Ellie, Justin, and Charlie Wetherby.

Calling hours will be 4-7 pm Thursday March 31, 2016 in Ray Funeral Home, 59 Seaman Ave., Castleton, NY. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Schodack Landing Fire Company, 350 Firehouse Lane, Schodack Landing, NY 12156.
