Castleton-Weston E. Dusenbery, 96, of Castleton, NY passed away peacefully at Barnwell Nursing Home, Valatie, NY on April 1, 2013. Born January 29, 1917 in Riders Mills, NY, he was the son of Martha Ackerman and Frank Melville Dusenbery. He was predeceased by sisters, Marion Sitser, Lillian Groves, Eleanor Groves, and Mildred Thompson; brothers, Ernest and Roscoe and step-brother John Morton. Weston served in the U.S. Army from 1943-1946. He participated in the Ryukus Campaign, in Hawaii, and the Pacific during World War II. He received the Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal with one battle star, the World War II Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
After his honorable discharge, he met and married Hilda M. Simons. They were married for 58 years before Hilda passed away. Weston retired from GAF, Rensselaer in 1979 after 33 years employment. Weston loved to garden and was well known for his delicious strawberries. He also enjoyed hunting small and large game. He was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, the Southern Tier Senior Citizens Center, AARP of Schodack and the Schodack Republican Club.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Jane Knoll and her staff for the kind and compassionate care they showed Weston.
He is survived by his brother, Harold M. Dusenbery of East Greenbush; his goddaughter, Colleen Divers; his godson, Wayne Dusenbery, Jr.; five nieces and two nephews.
His funeral service will be held at 12 noon Saturday April 6, 2013 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 1583 Carney Rd., Castleton, NY. Friends may call at the church before the service from 11 am-12. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery.
