Castleton-Walter R. Snyder, 94, a lifelong resident of Castleton, NY, passed away on February 26, 2017. He was the husband of 69 years of the late Dorothy M. (Gietz) Snyder and was preceded in death by his brother John Morris Snyder. He is survived by his son Jeffrey (Denise) Snyder, his daughter Bonnie (Patrick) Aiken, grandson Christopher (Paula) Aiken and great granddaughter Meredith Aiken.

After the death of his father John Snyder, Walt supported his widowed mother and younger brother as a civilian employee of the US Army Corps of Engineers on the Hudson River. He enlisted in the US Army during World War II, serving in both the European and Pacific theatres and rising to the rank of Sergeant.

After the War, Walt worked in residential construction before joing the D&H Railroad, where his career leading construction and maintenance activities spanned more than three decades.

In retirement Walt continued to pursue his lifelong passion for automobiles, particularly repair & restoration while keeping active in home and car maintenance projects (both his own and those of greatful friends and relatives) well into his 90’s.

Calling hours will be 6-8 pm Thursday March 2, 2017 at Ray Funeral Home, 59 Seaman Ave., Castleton, NY. A graveside service will follow on Friday at 10 am at Mountain View Cemetery, Castleton.
