Ruth Potter

June 14, 1933 — April 14, 2025

Ruth M. Potter passed away gently and peacefully in her sleep, at home in Muitzeskill, NY the morning of April 14, 2025.

Born in Albany, NY on June 14, 1933 to George E. Mesick Sr. and Beatrice Oakley Mesick, she grew up on their South Schodack family farm. Graduated from Castleton Union School. She received a Gemology degree at SUNY Morrisville; there, she met Lawrence J. Potter, Jr. They were married on June 12, 1954 and resided in Cortland, NY for many years; raising a family before moving back to Ruth's parents' former home in Schodack Landing.

Ruth was an award-winning fiber artist who loved to spin, sew, and weave. She was a member of Seven Valleys Weavers Guild, First United Methodist Church, and the Order of Eastern Star in Cortland NY. She loved nature and the outdoors: gardening, swimming, sailing, skiing. After returning to Schodack, she worked at NYS Dept. of Parks, Rec. and Historic Preservation at Peebles Island, skillfully restoring flags and textiles. Ruth was active in the Dutch Reformed Church of Schodack at Muitzeskill, and Castleton Study Club.

Predeceased by her parents, older brother, husband, grandson Adam and great grandchild Molly Mae, she is survived by her brother John I Mesick, children (and their spouses) Betsy Croft (Tim), Jaci Tucker (Jim), Charlie Potter (Lynn), and four grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and numerous extended family.

The community fondly remembers her heavenly baking, especially pies and rolls. Above all, her generosity and kindness; her name was aptly chosen. She will be missed.

She will be interred at Mountain View Cemetery, Castleton, NY. and the service held at the convenience of the family. Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be made to: The Dutch Reformed Church of Schodack at Muitzeskill - 902 Schodack Landing Road, Schodack Landing NY 12156
