Russell Reickert

Castleton- Russell J. Reickert, 99, of Castleton, passed away on Friday, January 16, 2026, at Evergreen Commons. Russ was born in Albany, the son of the late John and Anna (Kolb) Reickert. He was a lifelong resident of Castleton. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served for two years as motor machinist. Upon his return home, he met the love of his life, Rita (O'Keefe) whom he cherished. They were married for 70 years and had two children. Russ served as the Transportation Supervisor and then as Head Mechanic for the Schodack Central School system for many years. Upon his retirement from the school, he started an auto repair shop at his home, working on cars and selling tires. He did this for 36 years until the age of 89. Russ loved his home, his family, his many many friends, his wonderful neighbors, and of course his beloved Yankees. He was hardworking, highly respected, and loved by all who knew him.

He was predeceased by his wife, Rita Reickert; his son, Lee (Linda) Reickert; his grandson, Gregory Reickert; his brother, Earl Reickert; and his sister, Elna Kirsch.

He is survived by his daughter, Lynn Reickert; his granddaughter, Andrea (Miles) Martin; his grandson, Brian (Elisabeth) Reickert; his great-grandchildren, Aidan Martin, Blaise (Aimee) Martin, Ella Martin, Alexandria Martin, and Dexter Reickert; his nephews, Jeff Reickert, Kevin (Marilyn Gomeau) Hempstead, Donald (Maureen) Kirsch, David Kirsch, and Kenneth Kirsch.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at Emmanuel Reformed Church, 1150 Maple Hill Rd. Castleton, NY 12033. Interment will immediately follow at Horizon View Cemetery, Brookview Station Rd. Castleton, NY 12033.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Russ's memory to the Castleton Volunteer Ambulance, 1700 Brookview Rd. Castleton, NY 12033 or to a charity of one's choice.
