Regina A. Maier

On the evening of July 30, 2026, Regina Maier, 49, of Schodack, New York, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, Regina was the beloved daughter of Pamela (Keeler) Barber and Robert Barber. She was preceded in death by her sister, Aimee Barber; her mother-in-law, Sherry Maier, and her grandparents, Louis and Mary Wambach.

Regina earned her Associate's Degree from Columbia-Greene Community College and dedicated her professional life to serving the Schodack Central School District. For many years, she worked as the secretary at Castleton Elementary School, where her warm smile, caring heart, and willingness to help made a lasting impression on countless students, families, and colleagues. She had recently begun a new chapter as secretary to the Director of Special Education at the district office, a role she embraced with the same compassion and dedication that defined her career.

For 26 wonderful years, Regina shared a life filled with love, laughter, and unwavering partnership with her husband, Kurt. Together they built a home centered on faith, family, and service, raising their children, Makaila and Ethan, with unconditional love and steadfast support.

Regina's Christian faith was the cornerstone of her life. As a devoted member of Grace Fellowship, she trusted deeply in God and lived her faith through acts of kindness, generosity, and service to others. She believed wholeheartedly in the strength of her community and treasured the way neighbors, friends, and families came together to lift one another during times of need. She was a shining example of compassion, always willing to lend a helping hand, offer encouragement, or simply be present for someone who needed her.

Her commitment to serving others extended far beyond her profession. Regina proudly served as President of the CSEA union, advocating tirelessly for her fellow employees. She was a dedicated Girl Scout troop leader, Cub Scout Den Leader and Committee Chair, and High School Drama Club advisor, touching the lives of countless young people through her leadership, patience, and encouragement. Whether mentoring youth, supporting fellow staff members, or volunteering her time, Regina believed that investing in others was one of life's greatest callings.

Outside of her many commitments, Regina found her greatest joy in spending time with family and friends. She loved gathering with her cousins and extended family for snowmobile trips, lively game nights, and backyard barbecues that created memories to last a lifetime. She enjoyed working on the family property, camping with both her family and the Scouts, and sharing Mexican food, a good margarita, and an evening of laughter with friends. Above all, nothing brought Regina greater happiness than spending time with her children and the people she loved most.

Though her time with us was far too short, Regina's legacy of faith, service, kindness, and love will continue to live on in the countless lives she touched. Her gentle spirit, infectious smile, and unwavering belief in the goodness of people will never be forgotten.

Regina is survived by her loving husband, Kurt; her cherished children, Makaila and Ethan; her parents, Robert and Pamela Barber; and a large circle of extended family, friends, coworkers, fellow volunteers, and community members who were blessed to know and love her.

Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Friday, August 7, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A funeral service celebrating Regina's life will be held on Saturday, August 8, beginning at 11:00 a.m. Burial will immediately follow at Mellenville Union Cemetery. In honor of Regina’s memory, we ask that you wear blue to commemorate her.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that those wishing to honor Regina's memory do so by extending kindness to a neighbor, volunteering within their community, or supporting organizations that invest in children and families—causes that reflected the heart of the woman Regina was every day of her life.
