Laura M. Reutzel

April 21, 1927 — May 13, 2025

Laura M. Reutzel, age 98, of Stuyvesant, NY, passed away peacefully at the Eddy Memorial Geriatric Center in Troy, NY, on Tuesday, May 13, 2025. Born in Albany on April 21, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Leroy and Dorothy (LeBrecht) Zeigler. She was predeceased by her husband, Frederick W. Reutzel, Sr.; her sister Marilyn Boris; her brothers, Russell and Edwin Zeigler; her son-in-law, Baigio (Blasé) Crocco; and her daughter-in-law, Gail Reutzel.

Prior to raising her family, Laura was employed by Fort Orange Paper Company and later in life returned to work at Sterling Winthrop.

She and Fred raised eleven children and celebrated 70+ years of marriage. They spent summers camping with their family at Moffitt Beach in Lake Pleasant, NY. Laura was a big sports fan who followed baseball, basketball, golf, stock car and NASCAR racing. She also loved going to watch her children and grandchildren play sports.

In her retirement, she vacationed in Texas, Hawaii, Alaska, Florida, Tennessee, and the Caribbean. She also helped her husband sell vegetables and flowers at the Farmers Market for many summers.

Laura was a cancer survivor who never complained about her ordeal. Although small in stature, she proved to be mighty in spirit! She was amazing!

She is survived by her sister, Shirley Nightengale; sister-in-law, Marie Zeigler; her children, Fred (Diane) Reutzel of Castleton, Gloria Hooper of Clifton Park, Carol Crocco of Clifton Park, Diane (Robert) Blanchard of Valatie, Dennis Reutzel of Angleton, TX, Wanda (Rick) Shutts of Castleton, Tim (Mary Anne) Reutzel of Kinderhook, Ken (Andrea) Reutzel of Clute, TX, Richard Reutzel of Valatie, Ronald Reutzel of Stuyvesant, and Darlene (Patrick) Wright of Nassau; 21 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren, plus many nieces and nephews.

Her passing leaves a big hole in our hearts. May she spend eternity in the arms of the Lord, our God and at her loving husband's side.

The Reutzel family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to the wonderful staff at both Eddy Memorial Geriatric Center and Eddy Hawthorne Ridge.
