Castleton- John J. "Jack" Hudson passed away at his home on Saturday, April 11, 2026.
Born in Albany on May 27, 1934, Jack entered the world alongside his twin sister, Mary, as the son of the late John T. Hudson and Margaret Borras Hudson. He was born and raised in Castleton and remained a man deeply rooted in the community he loved throughout his life.
Jack was a proud graduate of Castleton Union Free School, where he attended kindergarten through twelfth grade. Following high school, he served in the Coast Guard Reserves. In 1958, he married Elizabeth A. Danner, at the Church of St. Mary at Clinton Heights, beginning a devoted marriage that would span over 67 years.
Jack was a dedicated and hardworking man who was employed by Fort Orange Paper Company, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and Sacred Heart Church. Even after retiring at the age of 86, his commitment to Sacred Heart remained steadfast, and he continued to volunteer there faithfully until his passing. His Catholic faith was a guiding force throughout his life and shaped the way he served others, loved his family, and lived each day.
He was also active locally in the Boy Scouts of America, offering his time and leadership to young people in the community. In quieter moments, Jack found great joy in photography, cooking, and camping.
Jack was a gifted storyteller with an impeccable memory, able to recall people, places, and moments in remarkable detail. He often shared vivid stories of life in the Village of Castleton, recounting events dating back to the 1930s with clarity and warmth that brought the past to life for all who listened.
Jack is survived by his wife, Elizabeth A. (Danner) Hudson; his children, Mark V. Hudson, Amy E. Hudson, John T. (Mary) Hudson, and Lynne M. (Matthew) Lindsey of Hagerstown, Maryland; his grandchildren, Aaron, Benjamin, and Caleb Lindsey; his brother, Raymond V. Hudson; and many in-laws, nieces, and nephews.
In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his twin sister, Mary Hudson; his brother, William (late Margaret) Hudson; and his sister, Margaret (late Perry) Bedell.
