Edward H. Miller

Edward H. Miller, 81, of Castleton, NY, passed away on August 14, 2026, in Troy, NY. He was born on July 14, 1945, in Rhinebeck, NY, to the late William Miller and Margaret Bloom Miller.

Edward was a graduate of Hicksville High School on Long Island. Following graduation he worked as a compositor in a print shop for 14 years. He met his wife of 51 years, Sue Goold, and together they moved to Sue's hometown of Castleton, where he joined her family business, Goold Orchards. There, he was fortunate to have many great mentors who helped him learn the art and science of growing apples.

Throughout his career, Edward was actively involved in the agricultural community, serving as past President of the Rensselaer County Cooperative Extension and the Cornell Hudson Valley Research Laboratory in Highland, NY. A man of many interests and talents, Edward earned his private pilot's license and taught himself the craft of winemaking, eventually producing an award-winning apple wine.

Edward is survived by his beloved wife, Sue Goold Miller; his daughter, Rachael Miller; his brother, Donald Miller; his brother in law, Peter Goold (Marion); his nephew, Kurt Miller; and several other nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, William P. Miller and David Miller.

A memorial service will be held in the future on a date and time to be announced.
