Listen to Obituary

Castleton- Dorothy M. Van Nederynen, was born on August 13, 1933, in Albany, NY, and called home to eternal rest on February 11, 2026, also in Albany, she lived a life rooted in family, faith, and quiet devotion.

She was raised in Sherwood Park in East Greenbush and later made her home in Castleton, where she resided for seventy-four years, forming deep roots in the community she loved.

She was the beloved daughter of the late Joseph Miaski and Dorothy Mary Miaski (née Houser). On September 29, 1951, she married the love of her life, Albert L. Van Nederynen, beginning a lifelong partnership marked by steadfast love, sacrifice, and shared purpose.

A devoted wife and loving mother, her life was defined by quiet strength and unwavering dedication to her family. She remained especially close to her parents and siblings throughout her life, cherishing those bonds always.

As a young farm wife, she raised her children while candling eggs in the basement, embodying the tireless work and humble perseverance of her generation. Later, so she could be there to watch her children board the school bus each morning and greet them when they returned home, she worked for many years as an apple sorter and packer at Goold Orchards and later at Becker's Farm, always placing her family first.

Gifted in knitting and sewing, she lovingly clothed her family and kept them warm through the seasons. Her kitchen was a place of nourishment and care, where she prepared fresh, wholesome meals using food grown in the family garden. She took special pride in her flower beds and window boxes, quiet reflections of the beauty she brought into everyday life.

A faithful member of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Castleton, she valued her parish community and enjoyed many years of fellowship playing darts on Wednesday evenings. And no remembrance of Dot would be complete without recalling her fond smile and playful saying, "Five foot two, eyes of blue, and oh how I could cootch-e-coo," or her enduring love of Willie Nelson's music, which brought her comfort and joy through the years.

In addition to her parents, Dot was predeceased by her siblings, Vivian Marie Gallagher, Shirley Jean Bohnet, Marlene Ann Murphy, Barbara Jane Cruisce, Joseph Peter Miaski, and Patricia Ann Paigo Console; and her grandsons, Eric Peter Van Nederynen and David Chandler.

In addition to her husband, Albert L. Van Nederynen, she is survived by her children, Linda Marie Van Nederynen, Jeffrey Van Nederynen, and David Scott Van Nederynen; her six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; and her sister Janet Irene Statile; and her brother, Michael Henry Miaski.
