Doreen Truesdell

October 26, 1963 — April 22, 2025

Doreen M. Truesdell died April 22, 2025, surrounded by her family after a 10 year battle with ovarian cancer. Born to Domenick and Antoinette Ercolano in Ozone Park, NY. She was raised on Long Island in Nesconset with her two sisters Donna and Debra. Her Italian heritage, with its great emphasis on close family ties and Catholic beliefs, not to mention great good, lasted her lifelong. She graduated from Smithtown HS East in 1985, she also graduated from Plattsburgh State University College, after distinguishing herself in print journalism and photography, and as an intern with Plattsburgh Press Republican.

It was at Plattsburgh that Doreen met Stephen Truesdell, her husband, and the two became inseparable for more than 40 years. After marrying, both settled into jobs on Long Island, Doreen as a reporter for Suffolk Life Newspaper where her work earned her the "Cub Reporter of the Year" award in 1985 from the Long Island Press Club. In 1988, Doreen and Stephen moved to their home in Castleton-On-Hudson, a place of family gatherings and friends parties for the next 37 years. Doreen and Stephen adopted four children: Nikolas, Domenika, Antonya and Peter. Most of Doreen's time was spent homeschooling and operating Quill and Ink Publishing, which helped nonprofits with print communications.

Doreen produced newsletters for the Rensselaer County Regional Chamber of Commerce, the RPI Technology Park, The Rensselaer County Historical Society, and the YMCA of Albany-Troy among others.

Doreen is predeceased by her mother and father and oldest sister, Sr. Donna Maria of the Holy Face of Jesus. She is survived by her husband Stephen Truesdell; sister Debra Brennan; children Nikolas and beloved daughter in law, Theresa; Domenika Truesdell; Antonya Truesdell Owen; Peter Truesdell; grandchildren Anastasia and Scarlett Anne.

A Funeral Mass for Doreen with be offered Saturday, April 26, 11:00am in Historic St. Mary's Church on Capitol Hill, 10 Lodge St. Albany, NY 12207. Interment in Sacred Heart Cemetery, South Old Post Road, Castleton, will immediately follow.
