Valatie-Clarence Lebrecht, 95, of Valatie died Thursday January 16, 2014 in the Whittier Nursing Center. Born in Schodack on September 12, 1918, he was the son of the late John and Catherine Lebrecht and was also predeceased by siblings, Henry Lebrecht, Raymond Lebrecht, Helen Pulver, Dorothy Zeigler, Edna Dorn and Catherine Michaels. His loving companion of 30 years, Clara Stockman, also preceded him in death.
Mr. Lebrecht served as a Private First Class in the 45th Cavalry Reconnaissance Troops in the U.S. Army from September 1943 to January 1946 and participated in several battles and campaigns in Rhineland, Rome, Arno, and Southern France. His decorations and citations include: the American Service Medal, the European-African-Middle-Eastern Campaign Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the World War II Victory Medal and a Purple Heart. Mr. Lebrecht worked at the Fort Orange Paper Company in Castleton and Sterling Winthrop in Rensselaer.
He leaves behind two sons Clarence (Karen Lumley) Lebrecht of East Greenbush and Gordon (Krista Clark) Lebrecht of Schodack Landing; 3 grandchildren, Stephannie Lebrecht (Richard Strath), James (Katie) Lebrecht, Joseph Lebrecht; and a great grandchild Ava Marie Lebrecht; 7 step-daughters, Patricia (Ronald) Barber, Kathy (Fred ) Cohn, Karen Stockman (Ed Oliver), Donna (Vincent) Jornov, Bonnie (Stanley) Smith, JoFern (Gary) Talarico, June (David) Eaves; several step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren; and many other loving family members and friends.
His funeral service will be 2:00 pm Saturday January 18, 2014 at Ray Funeral Home, 59 Seaman Ave., Castleton, NY. Calling hours will precede the funeral from 11 am-2 pm in the funeral home. Burial will follow with military honors in Mountain View Cemetery.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Whittier for the kind and compassionate care given to Chippy during his stay with them.
