Orrtanna, PA - Charles Lorraine Locke passed away suddenly on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, while visiting family in Castleton, New York.
Born in McConnellsburg, Pennsylvania, Charlie was the son of the late Richard and Mary Jane (Kling) Locke.
Charlie dedicated his life to serving others. He earned his bachelor's degree from York College of Pennsylvania and later received his master's degree from Shippensburg University. He began a distinguished career in juvenile justice, serving as the Chief of Juvenile Probation for Adams County, Pennsylvania, for 27 years before retiring in 2010. Never one to stay idle, Charlie returned to public service with the Franklin County Sheriff's Office, where he served in a variety of roles until his retirement in 2016. He was deeply passionate about his work and took great pride in making a positive difference in the lives of others.
Outside of his career, Charlie was an avid outdoorsman. He had a lifelong passion for hunting. Whether he was volunteering with and supporting his local fish and game clubs or heading into the woods each hunting season, he was happiest enjoying the traditions, camaraderie, and conservation that meant so much to him. He especially loved spending time with his dogs. He was the kind of person everyone could count on. Whether you needed advice, a helping hand, or someone who knew just the right person to call, Charlie was always there. He had an incredible ability to make friends wherever he went, and his genuine kindness left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
Of all the titles he held throughout his life, "Opa" was among his favorites. He treasured every moment spent with his grandchildren, creating memories they will carry with them forever.
In addition to his parents, Charlie was predeceased by his brother, Richard Andrew Locke.
He is survived by his beloved wife of more than 44 years, Cynthia (Cahill) Locke; his loving children, Shannon (Eric) Huffaker and C.J. Charles Lorraine (Kristine Elizabeth) Locke, Jr.; his cherished grandchildren, Aria Marie Huffaker, Cadence Ruth Huffaker, and Cameron Charles Locke; his sister-in-law, Denise Locke; and several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and countless friends who will miss him dearly.
A Celebration of Charlie's Life will be held in Pennsylvania at a date and time to be announced.
