Alice J. Ashby

Castleton- Alice J. Ashby, age 92, of Castleton passed away peacefully on Friday, October 9, 2026. Alice was born on December 6, 1933, in Troy, NY, the daughter of the late Leah and Carlton Johnson.

In her younger years, she worked for Liberty Mutual Insurance Company and the family business Welsh and Grey Lumber Corporation. Later in life, she earned her Real Estate and Brokers License in Florida.

Alice graduated from Castleton Union High School in 1951. She loved cheerleading for her school and then went on to cheer for her children and grandchildren at their sporting events.

She cherished her time with family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her loving husband, Christopher Ashby.

She is survived by her sons, Christopher Jr. (Dixie), Carl (Gretchen); and her daughter, Chandra Petre (Kevin); her grandchildren, Heather Reimiller (Rich), Jake Ashby (Kristy), Kristen Smith (Drew), Luke Ashby (Katherine), and Scott, Aleah and Sara Petre; her great-grandchildren, Holden and Elika Ashby, Ashby and Carson Smith, and Gracelynn, Charlie, Ben, Evelyn and George Ashby.

Alice is also survived by her sister-in-law, Kitty Murphy (Robert) and brother-in-law, Peter Ashby.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Alice's family from 4:00-6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at the Castleton Funeral Home, 59 Seaman Ave. Castleton, NY 12033. A funeral service will commence at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at the funeral home. A graveside service will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, at Mountain View Cemetery, Scott Ave. Castleton, NY 12033.
